Going for a few years of experience is advisable since most premium MBA institutes prefer candidates with some years of experience.

It depends on the individual, their interests and their career goals.

There are two categories of engineers.

  1. Engineers who sign-up for an MBA program right after completing Graduation
  2. Engineers who work in their desired field for some time and then join an MBA program.

My suggestion is - Engineers should get work experience in their respective field first. Joining MBA will be an augment in their career and professional growth prospects only when they have some work experience.

If an Engineer with few years of work experience joins MBA, his learning outcome would be much higher than a fresher, as his expertise will give him an edge of the perspective of business, leadership & management.

There is also the third alternative here, doing Executive Programs.

Many reputed Colleges both domestic and internationally provide Leadership programs which you can do without leaving your current job!
